Playing in the 2007 WSOP

The 2007 World Series of Poker will be an event like no other. It's safe to say the WSOP 2007 will be bigger and badder than any other year. For starters, the 55 events at this year's WSOP are the most in the history of the series, and a healthy increase from the 46 events the year previous. There are no guarantees when it comes the WSOP. There is no telling who will win. There is no telling how long a tournament will take or how many players will enter.

One of the only things a player can rely on when it comes to the WSOP is that all events will take place in Las Vegas. If serious about playing in the WSOP, you shouldn’t only be thinking about your poker strategy, it’s essential to make arrangements regarding travel and accommodations. Where will you stay? How will you get there? Do you need to rent a car? Are you bringing your family, or is this a Han Solo mission?

These are important questions you must consider if planning to play in the WSOP.

Travel
How are you going to get to Las Vegas? Are you going to fly? Should you drive? When should you buy plane tickets? The sooner you know when you need to be in Las Vegas, the quicker you should make arrangements to get there. Obviously, if coming from far away you're going to buy a plane ticket. Before you buy a first class ticket with your credit card, thinking you will use your winnings to pay the bill, use caution. Be responsible, no matter how sure you are of your skills. There are only so many Stu Ungars, Jaime Golds, and Mike Matusows in the world.

Place to Stay
Just as important as getting to Vegas will be finding a place to stay. Do you want to stay as close as possible to where the WSOP will take place, or would you rather save a couple of dollars and find accommodations off the beaten path? The longer you wait to book a room, the more expensive it will be, and the more likely you will encounter problems. There are special rates and programs offered to players who are pre-registered to play in the WSOP. Look into all of this.

Excursions
If you're bringing the family, don't forget about them while you're on the tables. They may not be as keen as you are when it comes to watching a bunch of poker nuts go at it for three days. Call the concierge at the hotel. Make plans. Keep everyone busy and happy. The less things you have to stress out about, the better it will be for you when it's time to play in the WSOP.
