The 1st thing you will notice is that the swings you take in a five handed game are much larger than the swings in a ten handed game. These 'five handed' tables don't apply in 'real' casinos at the moment, probably due to the fact that casinos have a limited amount of space and need full tables occupying the much needed space. Obviously online poker rooms have no such restrictions.
At a five handed maximum table we can now add certain cards to the strategy outlined in the online 10 handed section or the limit hold 'em beginner strategy. We can add all pairs, any A-x, and hands where the whole cards add up to 20 or more into the mix of hands we can play pre flop. Obviously, you can't play all these hands all the time, strategies need to be slightly altered with regards to the actual game as it unfolds. For example, playing J-10 for 3 bets before the flop would not be advised.
When you are playing this type of table, it is more important to find out where you are at in a hand on the flop. Also, if you have a hand like A-K or A-Q you will end up calling your opponents down more often when you don't hit a hand, so you will naturally be exposing yourself to more risk.
