Quite simply, this man is a poker legend. Known to many as Dolly (or to some of the older pro's, Doy-lee), Doyle Brunson is a 2 time WSOP champion ('76 & '77), won 10 WSOP bracelets to date and accumulated over $4 million in prize winnings. Although, he's th first to admit its not all went to good use:

"I've won millions playng poker....lost most of it betting on sports and golf - but i've always done 'my thing'. And i'm a happy man because of it."

Born in 1933, Doyle was brought up in the West Texan town of Longworth along with his Mother and father, sister Lavada and older brother Lloyd. During his school years, he bacame a great athlete, participating in basketball, baseball and track running, excelling in all three. However, at eighteen, sport had to take a back seat due to an unfortunate accident in the U.S. gypsum plant where he was working for the summer. With two thousand pound of sheetrock crashing onto his right leg, fracturing it in two places, Doyles leg would be in a cast for 2 years and his dreams of being a basketball pro were gone.
Doyle has been playing poker on and off since his high school days with his 1st game being five-card draw (which he ended up a big winner!)
Due to Legislation in 1970 which made it a federal offence to run a large scale poker game from which five or more players derived an income exept in places where gambling had been legalised, in 1973, Doyle moved with his young family to Las Vegas.
Through his time playing poker, his accomplishments are staggering. He made the final table at the first World Poker Tour Championship, won the Legends of Poker Season Three WPT event, and in 2004 he was one of the first three inductees into the Poker Walk of Fame. He holds ten World Series of bracelets, including 1976 Deuce to Seven Draw, 1977 Seven-Card Stud Split, 1978 Seven Card Stud, 1979 Mixed Doubles, 1991 No Limit Holdem, 1998 Seven Card Stud, 2003 H.O.R.S.E, and two champion event titles in 1976 and 1977. In his back to back titles he won both with the exact same poker hand, a full house (tens full of deuces) giving the Holdem hand 10 deuce the nickname: "Doyle Brunson".
New players can find all sorts of information on poker, but most people consider Doyle's book Super System the Bible of poker. There are sections on a variety of games written by the top players of that time. He has another book 'According to Doyle' which is a collection of some of the columns that he wrote for the old Gambling Times Magazine. In some of his writings, he said that all gamblers had an obligation to conduct themselves honorably. This is one of the things that could be said about Doyle. He recently opened his new online poker room, Doyle's Room.
