The poker hall of fame was created to commemorate those who deserve recognition for what they have achieved throughout their lives and career and how they have assisted in developing the game of Poker.

The 1st person to be inducted into the 'hall of 'fame' is a man said to be the first white man to give gamblers a fair shot at winning big in his casino, the famous Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas. Of only two historic equestrian statues in the city, this gentleman is honoured and remembered with one of them. He was born in 1904 in Texas, and in some 40 years operating Las Vegas casinos, he injected courage into an industry too timid to take a high bet. He forced gambling houses to change from sawdust joints to classy, carpeted casinos. Along with his sons, he changed poker from being a kitchen table pastime into an important casino game.
The Horseshoe casino gained a reputation for high limits, the trademark of this mans approach to gambling. In 1970, the first World Series Of Poker (WSOP) was hosted in the horseshoe, then a small tournament of truly great players. However, the WSOP was not only a poker tournament. It was also a great advertisement for the casino.
Though he passed away on Christmas day 1989, the horseshoe remained a family business and continued to hold the WSOP through 2003. Congratulations...........
